Ghee Beef Burek (not starch free)
ServesSrv8Ca:PCa:P1:0.3
Ingredients
Dough
- 5 dl masa flour
- 3 dl water
- 50 g softened butter
- 200 g ghee (or as needed)
- 1 tsp salt
Filling
Directions
- Clear your kitchen table. You’ll need the whole surface later.
- Fry the beef, onion, garlic, salt, and pepper in a pan. Add to a bowl, mix with cottage cheese and egg yolks, and refrigerate.
- Preheat oven to 200 °C (390 °F).
- Combine flour and salt in a large bowl. Add water gradually and mix until it forms a dough.
- Knead in the softened butter for 10–15 minutes until stretchy. Split the dough into two portions.
- Place one portion in the middle of your table. Flatten it, spread ghee on top, and begin stretching it outward into a square or rectangle. Stretch the corners toward the table’s edges, adding more ghee as needed. Small holes are fine. Continue until the dough is thin enough to see through. Cover with more ghee.
- Place filling along one edge from corner to corner. With ghee on your fingers, gently roll the filling inside the dough, creating many layers. Roll the long filled dough into a spiral. Place on a baking tray and cover with ghee.
- Repeat the process with the second dough portion. You can either extend the first spiral or create a second one.
- Bake until golden brown, 30–40 minutes.
